At the “Dariali” border crossing point, a Ukrainian citizen located in the so-called neutral zone inflicted an injury to his neck. The individual received assistance on site and remains at the location.

According to available information, the Ukrainian citizen inflicted self-harm as a form of protest. He was reportedly protesting the conditions in the buffer zone and demanding the right to leave the country.

As the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) told InterpressNews, an investigation has been launched under Article 115 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to incitement to suicide.

According to the MIA, at the “Dariali” border crossing, individuals coming from the Russian Federation who claim to be Ukrainian citizens and attempt to cross the Georgian state border with invalid documents have been denied entry due to state security concerns.

The ministry explained that the majority of these individuals have serious criminal records and have been convicted multiple times for grave or especially grave crimes.

The MIA also stated that the Georgian side has offered the Ukrainian side several mechanisms for safely removing and returning individuals in the so-called neutral zone to their homeland. The ministry expressed hope that the Ukrainian side will make a timely decision regarding the return of its citizens.
