In connection with the Chorchana episode, former Minister of Defense Levan Izoria arrived at the Prosecutor General's Office for questioning

In connection with the Chorchana episode, former Georgian Defense Minister Levan Izoria attended questioning at the General Prosecutor’s Office.

As he stated, he will answer journalists’ questions after the interrogation.

It is known that, as part of the ongoing investigation at the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the following individuals have been questioned: former Head of the State Security Service Vakhtang Gomelauri; former Deputy Head of the State Security Service Alexandre Tabatadze; former Head of the Government Administration Kakha Kakhishvili; former Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maia Tskitishvili; former Governor of Shida Kartli Giorgi Khojevanishvili; and the Head of the Tsaghvli Administrative Unit (which includes the village of Chorchana) Vazha Lomidze.

Additionally, residents of the village of Chorchana and Tsaghvli have been questioned as part of the ongoing investigation related to the Chorchana episode at the General Prosecutor’s Office.

For information, the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an investigation into the facts of sabotage, attempted sabotage under aggravating circumstances, aiding hostile activities for a foreign organization or an organization under foreign control, and mobilizing finances for activities aimed against Georgia’s constitutional order and national security, under Article 318, Part 1, Article 19, Part 2 of Article 318, Article 319, and Article 321, Part 2, Subparagraph “a” of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

As explained by the Prosecutor’s Office, within the framework of the ongoing investigation, among other issues, the actions carried out by former Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia, on August 24, 2019, near the village of Chorchana along the occupation line are under scrutiny.

“We remind the public that the investigation of suspicious circumstances related to the Chorchana checkpoint is also being conducted within the format of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament of Georgia, where former Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia was present to provide explanations,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated.
