The former head of the Intelligence Service, Davit Sujashvili, will be questioned at the Prosecutor General's Office in connection with the Chorchana episode

The investigation into the Chorchana episode is ongoing at the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia. As part of the ongoing investigation, the former head of the Georgian Intelligence Service, Davit Sujashvili, has been summoned for questioning on July 24.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Sujashvili is expected to arrive at the agency at 13:00.

As part of the same investigation, the following individuals have already been questioned: former head of the State Security Service of Georgia, Vakhtang Gomelauri; former deputy head of the State Security Service, Aleksandre Tabatadze; former head of the Government Administration, Kakhaber Kakhishvili; former Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Maia Tskitishvili; former Minister of Finance, Ivane Machavariani; former Governor of Shida Kartli, Giorgi Khojevanishvili; head of the administrative unit of Tsagvli (which includes the village of Chorchana), Vazha Lomidze; former Commander of the Georgian Defense Forces, Vladimer Chachibaia; and former Minister of Defense, Levan Izoria. Residents of the villages of Chorchana and Tsagvli have also been questioned.

For reference, the Prosecutor’s Office is investigating allegations of sabotage, attempted sabotage under aggravating circumstances, assisting a foreign organization or one under foreign control in hostile activities, and mobilizing financial resources for activities aimed against Georgia’s constitutional order and national security. These actions are being investigated under Article 318, part 1; Articles 19 and 318, part 2; Article 319; and Article 321^1, part 2, subparagraph “a” of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The Prosecutor’s Office also stated that as part of the ongoing investigation, among other issues, they are examining the actions taken by former Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia on August 24, 2019, near the village of Chorchana along the occupation line.

"The public is reminded that the suspicious circumstances surrounding the Chorchana outpost are also being investigated within the framework of the Temporary Parliamentary Investigative Commission, where former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has already provided explanations," the Prosecutor’s Office said.
