Citizens will be able to receive full information about our plans, upcoming events and everything we intend to do - to participate in the important discussions and decisions that we will offer to the public, including in a public form, - Levan Tsutskiridze, the leader of Freedom Square, said on PalitraNews program while talking about the initiative of 8 opposition parties, which involves "organizing members of resistance" in the regions.
“Today we are in a situation where the tasks we want to achieve and the problems that the country faces require more effort than we have done so far. I think there are many people in Georgia who are looking for an opportunity to contribute to this cause, so that the independence, freedom and European future of the country can be preserved in Georgia. Therefore, this will give citizens the opportunity to be more organized in our common actions. The strained relations between political parties and society must be overcome and we must understand that we are part of one fabric - political parties and citizens are not organizations or beings from different worlds, but members of one society and we must act together.
These so-called local elections do not represent any benchmark for me. They represent a benchmark for those who decided to participate in this event. Our resistance continues regardless of what happens there. I think it is important to create parallel, alternative, democratic spaces and political processes so that people can find their place in this political struggle,” Tsutskiridze said.
As he explained, for the involvement of society, it is important for parties to show what an alternative court, city council should look like and what issues they should work on.
“One of our duties as political parties is to promote the political activation of citizens. Among other things, by organizing protest events and creating a parallel, alternative, democratic process... At this stage, this is the opinion of Freedom Square and we will see if others share it, but I also consider it very important that we also elect representatives of the society participating in this resistance. We should have our representatives who will be even more effectively involved in this struggle. We need to show society what the alternative we are fighting for looks like. Among other things, this means developing and presenting to the public alternative models that should be created in this country in the near future - for example, what a fair court looks like. We think it is important to organize and demonstrate alternative trials. Not only on Rustaveli Avenue, but also elsewhere. We have many honest former judges, qualified lawyers, scientists and legal experts. We need to show people what an alternative court, the city council should be like, etc. We need to show the Georgia we are fighting for right now, ”said Levan Tsutskiridze.
According to him, Georgian Dream has been weakened by a different political struggle and peaceful, consistent, non-violent protests.
“That’s why they were sanctioned, that’s why they have internal turmoil, and that’s why they’re much weaker today than they’ve ever been. That’s why I’m not going to change the strategy that has brought us significant results. The key to our victory is our consistency. It’s a tough fight, but this fight has strengthened our resistance and made us last this far,” Tsutskiridze noted.
To a question about the Lelo Strong Georgia and Gakharia for Georgia parties participating in the local government elections, Tsutskiridze replied that this is a big political mistake.
"I regret that they made such a decision. It is never too late to change a wrong decision. How correct their decision is will become clear on the second day of these so-called elections. In my opinion, this is a big political mistake. We cannot defeat Georgian Dream by playing its game. You should not confront them with their own rules, but with asymmetrical and different rules of the game," explained Levan Tsutskiridze.
