Former head of Intelligence Service: I had no information about the opening of the checkpoint, I heard about it through the media - it would have been good if I had known about it before

I had no information about the opening of the checkpoint - the population was put in a difficult situation by opening the checkpoint, the Russian Federation opened additional checkpoints and installed surveillance equipment, this is a very big problem for me, - the former head of the Georgian Intelligence Service, Davit Sujashvili, told journalists after being questioned at the Georgian Prosecutor's Office about the Chorchana episode.

According to him, although he had no information about the opening of the checkpoint, this did not pose a problem, since providing this information to the intelligence service was not mandatory.

“A reform was carried out, by which a new National Security Council was created. The first meeting of this council, which was held in May, was of an organizational nature.

I had no information about the opening of the checkpoint, I learned about it through the media. The intelligence service, like other specialized services, workz within their own frameworks, the intelligence service obtains intelligence information from across borders, the intelligence service is actively involved in the direction of non-recognition, so if I did not have this information, I do not see a problem. I learned about the establishment of the checkpoint from open sources, it would have been good if I had known about it earlier.

The law on the procedure for planning and coordinating the national security policy of Georgia regulates the activities of the National Security Council, the head of the intelligence service is a permanent member of this council, therefore I was summoned to the Prosecutor's Office.

All special services work within their own frameworks, I consider it wrong when one service interferes with the activities of another service. The State Security Service, the Analytical Department are working on the occupation line. This process is taking place within the borders, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working beyond the borders, have you heard of the Geneva format? That's from this perspective.

I am discussing this issue globally, the territory of Georgia is occupied by a neighboring country and borderization is being carried out. The law states that the Council must discuss such an issue, that is, it is an important issue not only from the security perspective. Borderization is a painful issue for me, for you and for everyone.

Do you want Georgia to be united and strong? A member of the European Union? How do you think we will achieve this with a divided society? Each of us should consider that we are also responsible for how much we contribute to the consolidation of society. If you ask such questions, do not expect me to give you an answer that will cause division in society.

From what I have information, the population fell into a difficult situation with the opening of the checkpoint, the Russian Federation opened additional checkpoints and installed surveillance equipment, this is a very big problem for me," said Davit Sujashvili.

Ambassador of Korea Hyon Du KIM - Korea’s strength lies in high-tech manufacturing while Georgia’s strength is in logistics and service areas - Georgia should not be just considered as a single market but as a market that can encompass the region and beyond
