Nugzar Tsiklauri: “On specific issues, the eight parties are already united, and talking about having a common number when elections have been completely stolen is infantile - False unity is far worse”

“On specific issues, the eight political parties are already united, and now talking about having some common number when elections have been completely stolen, I consider to be infantile statements,” said Nugzar Tsiklauri, a member of the “Coalition for Change,” on PalitraNews’ program “360 Degrees,” in response to letters from Giorgi Vashadze and Zurab Japaridze, who wrote about party unity in their messages.

According to Tsiklauri, starting new consultations and discussing unification in the current situation is not productive.

“Is it possible for two people with completely different positions to go somewhere together? That’s impossible. We see now that there are people in political forces who believe they should participate in local government elections, while other political parties have a different stance. The situation is such that on certain specific issues, these eight political parties are already united, and talking now about having some common number when elections have been completely stolen, I consider to be infantile statements that do not align with the political situation in our country. We have a country to take back. We are in a situation where the fairness of elections is no longer even considered, and almost two or three statements are issued daily by the European Parliament, the EU, or various European political leaders.

Talking about this now, I believe, is not productive because we don’t have elections, citizens’ rights do not exist in Georgia, and yesterday’s evictions showed once again how much the government values its citizens. In this situation, starting new consultations about everyone uniting—isn’t that an unserious conversation?” Tsiklauri noted.

According to the opposition politician, similar unity has been created multiple times in the past, but it has not brought success to the country because, in his assessment, it was false unity.

“False unity is far worse than debating, discussing, or expressing differing positions. This is false unity. Such apparent unity has been created many times, and it has never brought good or progress to this country.

I believe in uniting on fundamental issues—for example, when you might be right-wing or have a different stance on economic issues, but regarding what happened today, how ‘Dream’ brutally treated helpless people, we will have one position. We will also have one position on other matters, but to now create some kind of ‘Babylon Tower’ where everyone is lumped together, new contradictions will inevitably arise there as well,” Tsiklauri stated.
