Tbilisi City Hall: 3 out of 9 citizens living on Tvalchrelidze Street, registered in Tbilisi, agreed to provide them with rent, while six refused - it is a lie, as if the City Hall offered them 300 GEL for rent, citizens choose their own apartments

Tbilisi City Hall has issued a statement regarding the eviction of citizens from the building located on Tvalchrelidze Street.

As stated in the statement released by Tbilisi City Hall, six citizens refuse the municipality's offer. Also, 2 citizens who do not own real estate will be provided with rent.

“Given the high interest of the public, we would like to clarify once again the conditions offered by the Tbilisi City Hall to the citizens who encroached on the private territory located on Tvalchrelidze Street in Tbilisi.

The Samgori District Administration began negotiations with the persons residing at the mentioned address two years ago. Everyone registered in Tbilisi was offered rent. There were only 9 such citizens. The Tbilisi City Hall Care Agency also had constant communication with them in order to provide assistance to the persons registered in Tbilisi and to transfer them from the life-threatening building to a safe environment, with rent provided.

Currently, only three citizens have applied to the Samgori District Administration, one of whom was assigned real estate, while the other two will be provided with rent. Six citizens refused and still do not agree to the municipality’s offer.

For several days now, another false information, as if the Tbilisi City Hall was offering these people 300 GEL to rent apartments and only for a three-month period. This is a complete lie and disinformation. Citizens choose apartments themselves, a one-year contract is concluded, and after this period expires, the contract is extended.

In addition, since 2022, the Tbilisi Municipality has been operating a homeless program, which involves the transfer of residential premises to families with homeless status. The City Hall is gradually providing residential premises to the families registered in Tbilisi with homeless status. By the end of 2025, up to 400 such families will be provided with residential premises.

The Tbilisi Municipality also has a municipal shelter, where any person registered in Tbilisi can live. All the relevant conditions necessary for living have been created in the shelter.

Finally, we would like to inform you that dilapidated buildings located on Tvalchrelidze Street are not the property of the municipality. This is a private territory and the Tbilisi City Hall does not participate in the eviction process of the encroachers, however, it is trying to help citizens registered in Tbilisi in resolving their housing problems, in accordance with the current rules and laws.

As for citizens who are not registered in the capital, they are being assisted by relevant state agencies,” reads the information.
