The former MP of "Georgian Dream" and veteran wrestler, Luka Kurtanidze, has been officially charged by the Prosecutor’s Office.

According to information released by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia, Luka Kurtanidze has been charged with domestic violence, intentional damage to a family member’s property, and violation of the requirements and obligations outlined in a protective order issued for a family member.

The offense is punishable by up to 5 years of imprisonment.

“The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged an individual for acts of violence against a former spouse due to intolerance toward gender equality, intentional damage to a family member’s property, and violation of the requirements and obligations stipulated by a protective order issued for the family member.

The investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that the accused violated the conditions of a court-issued protective order, which prohibited him from approaching, contacting, or visiting the victim’s residence. Despite this, he went to the victim’s home twice, including on July 25 in Kobuleti, where, due to intolerance toward gender equality, he physically assaulted his former spouse and damaged her car.

Law enforcement officers arrested the accused on the same day. He has been charged under Article 126¹, Part 1 (domestic violence causing physical pain), Article 11¹-187, Part 1 (intentional damage to a family member’s property causing significant harm), and two counts of Article 11¹-381¹, Part 1 (violation of the requirements and obligations of a protective order), all of which are punishable by up to 5 years of imprisonment.

The Prosecutor’s Office will submit a motion to the court within the legal timeframe requesting pre-trial detention as a preventive measure.
