This statement means that when they lose so many disputes, the only thing left for them to do is distance themselves, - said Deputy Minister of Justice Beka Dzamashvili, responding to the statement of Strong Georgia regarding the Washington arbitration decision in the Anaklia Port case.
As Beka Dzamashvili noted, the leaders of Strong Georgia were involved in the arbitration dispute process.
“We issued a statement about what the arbitration decided. It was about the fact that the state was right, that all responsibility lay with the investors, the complainants. The only thing they did was start distancing themselves from their partner or former partner. In fact, this statement means that when they lose so many disputes, the only thing left for them to do is to distance themselves. As if their investor, their partner, was responsible for everything.
We remember their participation in the discussions very well, they probably won’t say that they attended these discussions as tourists. Until now, they stated that they were conducting the dispute in 2 international arbitrations, and today, distancing themselves after the decision means that this failure is very painful for them,” said Dzamashvili.
According to the Deputy Minister of Justice, “We have the Washington arbitration decision, which very clearly states that the project had full support from the government.”
"The public remembers well how much political agitation there was regarding the Anaklia port, as if this project could not be implemented due to the fault of the government. It was about obstructing Western investments. All these accusations were answered by the Paris arbitration a year ago. Today, we already have the Washington arbitration decision, which very clearly states that the project had full support from the government; investors were given the opportunity to postpone the period for fulfilling these obligations several times, however, they were unable to implement the project solely through their own fault. Special emphasis is placed on the aspect that Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze were particularly active. We are talking about the criminal prosecution against them. The Washington arbitration gave a very clear answer to this issue, saying that in a democratic state, no one can have the expectation that if they commit a crime, "he will have any insurance because he is connected to some project or some politician. It is also noteworthy that this decision was made unanimously by three arbitrators, including the arbitrator appointed by the plaintiffs who decided that the investors are entirely responsible for the failure to implement the project. Perhaps, the speculations that American or Western investment was prevented should have ended by now, because today we already have the Washington arbitration decision," said Beka Dzamashvili.
