Tbilisi City Court rejects lawyers’ motions to revoke pre-trial detention of 11 people arrested at protests, leaves all defendants in custody

Tbilisi City Court Judge Nino Galustashvili did not satisfy any of the lawyers’ motions to revoke the pre-trial detention of 11 people arrested at the rally and left all the defendants in custody.

At today’s court session, the lawyers filed motions one by one to revoke the detention or replace it with bail, only the lawyer of actor Andro Chichinadze filed a motion to revoke the detention without bail and requested that Andro Chichinadze leave the defendant’s seat without bail.

The lawyers argued that there was no direct evidence in the case that would prove the defendants’ participation in the group violence during the rally near the parliament. They also say that the testimony of the chief investigator of the case, Arsen Khunashvili, is also the main evidence that none of the individuals sitting in the defendant's seat have a direct connection to the organizers and that there is no connection between the defendants in general.

After hearing the motions, Judge Nino Galustashvili announced a half-hour break. After the session resumed, she announced the decision and said that all the defendants remained in custody.
