Levan Makhachvili: Instead of responding to an outstretched hand for dialogue with a hand for dialogue, they speak to us with ultimatums, dispatches, and resolutions - this is not the way to talk to a partner!

“Instead of responding to an outstretched hand for dialogue with a hand for dialogue, they speak to us with ultimatums, dispatches, and European Parliament resolutions—this is not the way or the step to take when talking to a partner! A partner you value and whose relationship matters to you,” Levan Makhachvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee, told journalists.

Additionally, according to Makhachvili, the Georgian side will provide the European Commission with information regarding the actions taken.

As Makhachvili explained, the Parliament has compiled information that will be provided to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In turn, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will prepare a comprehensive package to be submitted to the European Commission on behalf of Georgia.

“During the Parliament’s spring session, numerous steps were taken to ensure issues related to visa liberalization, among others, are guaranteed. For example, this concerns illegal migration, asylum policy issues, and the fight against organized crime. This information—both from a legislative perspective and regarding the steps taken by the executive branch—will be fully provided to the European Commission in accordance with the deadlines.

From our side, every step is being taken to ensure that, on the one hand, Georgia’s national interests are protected and, on the other hand, the security of the European Union and its citizens is safeguarded.

We express full readiness to address all issues that concern both sides based on the principles of justice and equality, to see what we can do to return relations to a normal framework, rather than in the manner of: ‘This is what I want, and this is what you must do!’” stated Levan Makhachvili.
