Maia Mtsariahsvili: If the court rules that slapping someone is an act of assault, it will be a parody of the law, a parody of justice. There is only one possible outcome - a not guilty verdict must be delivered

“If the court says that slapping someone is an act of assault, it will be a parody of the law, a parody of justice,” said Maia Mtsariahsvili, the lawyer of Mzia Amaghlobeli, founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, after the conclusion of the court hearing.

According to Mtsariahsvili, there is only one forecast: a not guilty verdict must be delivered, as any other decision would be a mockery of the law.

“This trial is a mirror — if you look inside it, you’ll see how law enforcement representatives abuse their power: the police, the prosecution, the government. Everything is in this case, you can read it all. The only possible outcome is a not guilty verdict. Any other decision would be a mockery of the law and of justice,” said Maia Mtsariahsvili.

For context, yesterday’s court session lasted about 10 hours. The lawyers delivered their closing statements, and the court also heard replies from both the defense and the prosecution.

Mzia Amaghlobeli, founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, is scheduled to deliver her final statement to the court on August 4 at 1:00 PM.
