“Georgian Dream continues its campaign against the ambassadors of Georgia’s partner countries — they are even running a campaign to expel the German ambassador from his residence and, more than that, from the country itself.
It’s unclear what exactly they’re looking for,” — said Grigol Gegelia, one of the leaders of Lelo – For Strong Georgia, in response to reports that German Ambassador Peter Fischer is renting an apartment in Tbilisi owned by the family of Mamuka Khazaradze.
According to Gegelia, a primitive campaign is being waged against the ambassador, and he expressed solidarity with the German envoy.
“Georgian Dream is continuing its campaign against the ambassadors of Georgia’s partner countries — they’re now targeting the German ambassador with a campaign to expel him from his residence, even from the country. It’s unclear what they’re trying to find. There is a valid contract, and Mamuka Khazaradze’s family and businesses have paid hundreds of millions of lari in taxes over the years. In this country, there has always been — and will always be — a distinction between friend and foe.
It’s almost laughable to suggest that a representative of the Federal Republic of Germany would sign a lease without a proper contract. And it’s equally absurd if the Prime Minister believes that Germany’s foreign policy is defined or dictated by a rental agreement.
Germany’s Foreign Office has made it repeatedly and explicitly clear that the ambassador fully reflects its policy toward Georgia and its so-called government.
This is nothing but primitive propaganda, with vile accusations against the ambassador, and I want to express my full solidarity with him.
On the other hand, I would ask Georgian Dream — in Digomi 7, to whom are their members renting out homes? Maybe they should look into whether these multimillion-worth properties are being rented out with proper contracts or not.
Once again — Mamuka Khazaradze and the companies associated with him have paid millions of lari into the country’s budget, and everyone knows it — especially Georgian Dream, which is in control of that budget,” said Grigol Gegelia.
