Georgian film director Eldar Shengelaia dies at 92

Georgian film director Eldar Shengelaia has died at the age of 92. Family members shared the news on social media.

For information, the film director received his higher education at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow. In 1957–1959, he worked at the Mosfilm film studio. In 1960, he moved to the Georgian Film studio.

The filmmaker was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1988, and the Shota Rustaveli Prize in 1998. He also held the Golden Order of St. George, which was awarded in 2013, and was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi in 2022. Eldar Shengelaia also held the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of Lenin, and the Order of St. George of Victory.
