Giorgi Akhobadze was released from the courtroom

Doctor Giorgi Akhobadze, accused of a drug-related crime, was released from the courtroom. His handcuffs were removed after the court, just a few minutes ago, declared the detained doctor not guilty.

The decision was made by Judge Romeo Tkheshelashvili of the Tbilisi City Court.

For reference, Doctor Giorgi Akhobadze was detained on December 7 while returning home from a protest rally held on Rustaveli Avenue. He was charged under Article 260, Part 6 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the illegal acquisition and possession of a large quantity of narcotic substances. This offense carries a penalty of imprisonment ranging from 8 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
