The prosecution will appeal the Tbilisi City Court’s acquittal verdict in favor of Giorgi Akhobadze to the Court of Appeals

The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office will appeal, through appellate procedure, the decision of the Tbilisi City Court, which declared Giorgi Akhobadze, accused of illegal acquisition and possession of a particularly large quantity of narcotic substances, not guilty.

This was announced in a statement issued by the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office.

“Law enforcement officers detained the accused on December 8, 2024. He was charged with the illegal acquisition and possession of a particularly large quantity of narcotic substances.

The investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that the accused illegally acquired and possessed 3.73133 grams of the narcotic substance ‘Alpha-PVP’ (α-PVP).

The evidence obtained in the criminal case was fully examined in the Tbilisi City Court. Despite this, the court did not accept the evidence presented by the prosecution, declared the accused not guilty of the charges brought against him, and released him from detention.

The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office will appeal the Tbilisi City Court’s verdict to the Tbilisi Court of Appeals within the legally prescribed timeframe, following the receipt of the reasoned judgment,” the statement reads.
