Kharagauli City Hall: Due to the increased risk of intensified landslide activity, entry into the villages of Gverka and Khemaghali is strictly restricted – some local residents still refuse to leave their homes

In connection with the ongoing landslide processes in the villages of Kharagauli Municipality, the Kharagauli City Hall has issued a statement explaining that the intensity of the mountain slope collapse has increased, posing a real threat of blocking the Qarneba River valley.

According to the City Hall, part of the population from the affected villages has been relocated to alternative accommodations, while some residents refuse to be evacuated.

“Landslide processes have intensified in the villages of Khemaghala and Ghverki in Kharagauli Municipality. According to geologists, the intensity of the mountain slope collapse has increased, creating a real threat of blocking the Qarneba River valley.

Considering the emerging danger, the municipality’s City Hall has taken measures and provided the population of the villages with alternative accommodations in safe areas. Despite both verbal and written warnings about the potential danger, some residents continue to refuse to leave their homes.

Due to the increased risk of intensified landslide processes, access to the villages of Ghverki and Khemaghala is strictly restricted. In light of the ongoing comprehensive engineering-geological studies in the villages, geologists unequivocally recommend the immediate evacuation of the population to safe areas.

Therefore, we once again call on every citizen to comply with the recommendations of the relevant authorities and specialists and not to put their own safety or that of their family members at risk,” the statement from the City Hall reads.
