Today, Estonia reaffirms its full support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna issued a statement on the 17th anniversary of Russia’s aggression against Georgia.

“17 years ago today, by launching a war against Georgia, Russia clearly demonstrated its aggressiveness and its desire to cling to an imperial past.

Today, Estonia reaffirms its full support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

We will neither forget nor ever recognize the ongoing occupation of its territory”, reads the statement.

It has been 17 years since the August war. In the August 2008 Russian-Georgian war, 170 employees of the Georgian Ministry of Defense, 14 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and 224 civilians were killed. The total number of wounded and injured civilians and military personnel is 2,232, including 1,045 military personnel.
