When we were asked to send volunteers to Ukraine on a government plane and impose sanctions on Russia, no one gave us a guarantee that this would not provoke a response from Russia, which would put our country's security at risk, - Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili stated in an interview with the Spanish media outlet El MUNDO.
According to Botchorishvili, after the war in Ukraine began, Georgia found itself under serious pressure, which put the country's national security at risk and created the risk of starting a new conflict with Russia.
“We have thoroughly analyzed the forces behind these campaigns. When we were asked to send volunteers to Ukraine on a government plane, impose sanctions on Russia, and take a certain response, no one gave us a guarantee that this would not provoke a Russian response that would put the security of our country at risk. In such conditions, our responsibility is clearly greater - to do everything to protect our state,” Maka Botchorishvili said in an interview with El MUNDO.
The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on the interview given by the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Spanish edition.
