According to lawyer, Insaf Aliyev, who stands arrested on charges of gang violence during protests, has begun a hunger strike

According to the lawyer, Ayhan Hasanli, Insaf Aliyev, who is accused of gang violence, has started a hunger strike as a sign of protest.

According to him, Insaf Aliyev has health problems and needs to take medication. As he notes, despite the promise that medication would be delivered, “he still has limited access to the necessary medical supplies.”

“Prisoner of conscience Insaf Aliyev has started a hunger strike.

I have visited him recently. According to the information he provided: Yesterday, Insaf Aliyev stated that there were inhuman and inhumane conditions in their cell, in particular, a large number of cockroaches. After that, Aliyev and his cellmates were transferred from cell 186 to cell 248. There was no water in the new cell and the sewage system was blocked. They could not wash their hands or mouths or wash dishes, which meant they could not eat and, in fact, were deprived of access to food.

Insaf Aliyev appealed to the authorities for help, but there was no response for five hours. During this time, food and hygiene continued to be a problem. Finally, he knocked on the door with his foot in the hope that someone would respond and offer help, but instead a report on the violation of order was drawn up. That same evening, Aliyev was transferred to a 5-day isolation cell - a solitary confinement cell.

It is worth noting that Insaf Aliyev has health problems and requires medication. Despite the promise that medication would be delivered, he still has limited access to the necessary medical supplies.

Before being transferred to solitary confinement, Aliyev tried to explain that due to his health condition, he needed to take his medication and personal belongings from the cell. Instead, he was handcuffed and forcibly taken (in fact, dragged) to isolation.

Before that, when he noted that his new cell had limited access to water and the sewage system was out of order, Aliyev was temporarily returned to cell 186, where disinfection work had recently been carried out. The cell smelled strongly of chemicals, which Insaf Aliyev felt unwell twice and had to be taken to the doctor.

Insaf Aliyev began a hunger strike as a sign of protest.

The Public Defender's Office has already been informed and is aware of the case," the lawyer wrote.

For information, Insaf Aliyev was arrested during the protests and is charged with group violence. He faces 4 to 6 years in prison.
