Georgian Dream, its government, has never justified Russia’s actions, - this is how Mikheil Kavelashvili answered the journalists’ question about what he has to say to the Shindisi heroes in the context of “blaming his own homeland for the August war”.
As Kavelashvili stated, there are questions addressed to the then government - the National Movement - that need to be answered.
“As for the actions of the then government, I would like to point out that your question is speculative and I will tell you why - Georgian Dream, its government, has never justified Russia’s actions. We have defeated them on all controversial issues. We always note that Russia is an occupier, that Russia committed a crime and organized genocide against Georgia, we do not blame the country for starting the war. Each name, as we celebrate each heroism of these boys today, should be remembered by every Georgian, especially the example of this heroism. All of us, willingly or unwillingly, perhaps intentionally, failed to ensure that we behaved as befits the Georgian government, in this case, I am talking about our predecessors, the then government. They left certain questions as to why they behaved this way. I will not get ahead of the events, because I am the President of Georgia, let's wait for the final investigation,” Kavelashvili said.
According to him, the whole of Georgia has questions about the then government, why they signed the resolution, why they did not warn the public that Russia had already invaded.
“Russia’s actions are clear to everyone. They committed a crime against Georgia, our territories are occupied, and in response they used disproportionate force. There is no question mark over Russia’s actions. We, the citizens of Georgia, have a legitimate question with that government,” Kavelashvili said.
According to him, Georgia will definitely be a just state and no crime will be covered up.
"We will definitely be a strong country. Step by step, we are moving towards becoming a just state, and no institution, no representative in this country that has committed a crime, especially against their own country, should be covered up. Everything should be revealed to the citizens of Georgia. Everything else is clear to the public," Kavelashvili said.
