The Mayor of the capital stated that in cases of replacing dilapidated buildings, if there is not 100% agreement from the residents, the approach will not change. He addressed this in response to a relevant question from the media.
According to Kakha Kaladze, since property rights are defined by law, the municipality will not forcibly evict anyone from their own home.
“The approach will not and cannot change because property rights are determined by law. Accordingly, we do not have the authority to forcibly evict someone from their home and demolish their living space. There have been certain speculations on this issue, with examples cited such as the eviction of people who have encroached on private property or the demolition of houses illegally built on state land. These are completely different matters.
I repeat once again, we, as a municipality, do not have the right to do this, we have never done it, and we will not do it – forcibly evicting people from their own homes, which belong to them,” the Tbilisi Mayor stated.
