The author of the indictment stated that Nika Katsia was a drug user, but it turned out that the defendant did not use drugs — experts categorically stated that Nika Katsia was not a user of narcotic substances, said Nika Katsia’s lawyer, Nino Lominadze, after the court hearing on charges of drug-related offenses.
According to her, hair samples can retain information about drug use for months and even years, but the expert examination conducted on Nika Katsia did not confirm any trace of drug use.
“At today’s court hearing, experts who took hair samples and conducted the relevant toxicological research testified and determined that Nika Katsia was not a user of narcotic substances. This information is important because when the author of the indictment claimed that Nika Katsia was a drug user, it turned out that the defendant did not use drugs. The prosecution did not consider this information irrefutable, but when I got involved in this case, I requested that the prosecution be ordered to conduct this examination, but they refused. The experts confirmed their conclusion in court and categorically stated that Nika Katsia was not a user of narcotic substances. The expert testified in court that hair can retain information about drug use for months and years,” said Nino Lominadze.

For context, Nika Katsia was charged under Article 260, Part 6 of the Criminal Code, which involves the illegal acquisition and possession of a large quantity of narcotic substances.
This crime carries a penalty of 8 to 20 years or life imprisonment. Nika Katsia was arrested on December 7.
