Russia sentenced Aleko Elisashvili to six years in prison in absentia

For fighting on Ukraine’s side, Russia has sentenced one of the leaders of “Strong Georgia,” Aleko Elisashvili, to six years in prison in absentia.

This was stated in a report by Russia’s Investigative Committee.

According to the Investigative Committee, the court deemed the evidence collected by the Committee sufficient to deliver a verdict against Georgian citizen Aleko Elisashvili. He was convicted in absentia of violating Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which concerns participation as a mercenary in an armed conflict.

The Russian court sentenced Elisashvili to six years in prison “to be served in a high-security penal colony.”

It is known that earlier, Russia had placed Elisashvili on the international wanted list.
