In the Tbilisi City Court, where the trial of 8 people arrested during the protests is underway, one of the defendants, Insaf Aliyev, has fainted. Judge Tamar Mchedlishvili declared a break, and emergency doctors have been called.
“He told me that his eyes are going dark. An ambulance is coming,” Ayhan Hasanli, the defendant’s lawyer, told InterpressNews.
It is worth noting that Insaf Aliyev’s lawyer, Ayhan Hasanli, took advantage of the closing arguments at today’s trial. He petitioned Judge Tamar Mchedlishvili to acquit his client, who is accused of participating in gang violence. According to the lawyer, there is no evidence in the case to prove Aliyev’s guilt.
“There must be an organized group, acquaintance and connection between the group members. If this is not confirmed, then the submitted classification cannot be proven. The connection of the participants with each other, acquaintance, organized nature of the criminal actions, the fact that they were following someone’s instructions are not proven. Accordingly, the act presented as a charge cannot be proven and the court must issue an acquittal,” said Ayhan Hasanli.
For information, three of the eight arrested individuals – Zviad Tsetskhladze, Vepkhia Kasradze and Vasil Kadzelashvili – are accused of organizing and leading group violence. They face 6 to 9 years in prison.
Five of the defendants - Giorgi Gorgadze, Irakli Miminoshvili, Insaf Aliyev, Tornike Goshadze and Nikoloz Javakhishvili - are accused of participating in gang violence. They face 4 to 6 years in prison.
