Prosecutor's Office charges Deputy State Representative in Dusheti, Tianeti, Mtskheta and Kazbegi municipalities with taking a large amount of bribe

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged the Deputy State Governor of Dusheti, Tianeti, Mtskheta and Kazbegi municipalities with taking a particularly large amount of bribe.

According to the information released by the Prosecutor General's Office, the accused demanded the transfer of 400,000 USD as a bribe, of which he took 80,000 USD on September 5.

“An investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia revealed that the Deputy State Attorney in the municipalities of Dusheti, Tianeti, Mtskheta and Kazbegi promised a foreign citizen the change the status of land plots from agricultural to non-agricultural, in return for which he demanded the transfer of 400,000 USD as a bribe, of which 80,000 USD was taken on September 5.

The detainee was charged under Article 338, Part 3, Subparagraph “e” (taking a bribe in an especially large amount) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for up to 15 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

The Prosecutor's Office will apply to the court within the time limit established by law to impose imprisonment on the accused as a preventive measure," reads the information.
