The Deputy State Representative in the municipalities of Dusheti, Tianeti, Mtskheta, and Kazbegi has been sentenced to imprisonment in a case involving the acceptance of a particularly large bribe

The Tbilisi City Court imposed imprisonment as a preventive measure for Giorgi Kapanadze, the deputy state representative in the Dusheti, Tianeti, Mtskheta, and Kazbegi municipalities, who was detained on charges of accepting a particularly large bribe.

The prosecution requested imprisonment as a preventive measure for Kapanadze, citing the risk of destroying evidence, pressuring witnesses, and absconding.

Kapanadze does not plead guilty to the charges brought against him.

For reference, according to the investigation, the deputy state representative in the Dusheti, Tianeti, Mtskheta, and Kazbegi municipalities promised a foreign citizen to change the status of land plots from agricultural to non-agricultural use. In exchange, he demanded a bribe of $400,000, of which $80,000 was received on September 5.

The accused has been charged under Article 338, Part 3, Subparagraph “e” of the Criminal Code of Georgia (accepting a particularly large bribe), which carries a penalty of up to 15 years of imprisonment.
