MIA: Three individuals were detained in relation to the events developed on Melikishvili Avenue on September 8-9 – two of them for assaulting demonstrators, one for damaging Georgian Dream election banner

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has detained 3 individuals within the framework of the investigation launched into the events that took place on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi on September 8-9.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the following individuals have been detained on charges of gang violence: Z.M., born in 1965, and I.B., born in 2003, while I.D., born in 2002, has been detained on charges of damaging or destroying property.

“The evidence obtained by the investigation established that the detainees Z.M. and I.B. physically assaulted the participants of the protest on September 8 during the protest on Melikishvili Avenue. As for I.D., he damaged the election banner of the Tbilisi mayoral candidate of the Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party on Melikishvili Avenue.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on all persons involved in the events to cooperate with the investigation and report to the relevant unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs upon summons.

The investigation is underway under Part One of Article 126, Part One of Article 162, and Article 187 of the Criminal Code.

"In addition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues intensive investigative actions to identify other individuals involved in the criminal acts and bring them to justice. Each fact of violation of the law will be followed by an appropriate legal response from the police," reads the statement.
