The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged two Ukrainian citizens with the illegal purchase, storage, transportation, sale and illegal import of explosives across the Georgian customs border.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, an investigation conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Center of the State Security Service established that on September 10, 2025, a truck crossed the state border from Turkey, heading from Ukraine to Georgia, via Romania and Bulgaria, and entered the country through the Sarpi customs checkpoint.
“The driver of the car brought an explosive substance containing hexogen, which is a potent substance and is suitable for use, into the Georgian customs border by placing it in disguised hiding places. The driver of the car handed over the said explosive substance to a citizen of Ukraine who was also in Georgia, at which time both persons were arrested.
The investigation also established that one of the accused was illegally storing a particularly large amount of the narcotic drug “cocaine” in his temporary residence, which was seized as a result of the search.
The detainees were charged under Article 236, Part 3, 4 and 5 and Article 214, Part 4 (illegal purchase, storage, transportation, use and illegal import of explosives across the customs border of Georgia), which provides for up to 9 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment; one person was also charged under Article 260, Part 3, Subparagraph "a" (illegal purchase, storage of narcotic drugs in an especially large amount), which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.
The Prosecutor's Office will apply to the court within the time limit established by law with a motion to impose pre-trial detention as a preventive measure on the defendants," reads the information.
