“The fact is very grave. Anyone who dares to act against the law and harms Georgia economically, politically, or in terms of statehood will, sooner or later, face justice - this is our style,” said Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a deputy from “Georgian Dream,” in a conversation with journalists, commenting on the information released by the Prosecutor’s Office.
According to him, every perpetrator of illegal actions will face Georgian justice.
“The fact is very grave. Although at first glance, making this public might seem politically damaging to us to some, we will not pay attention to that. Whether this is politically damaging to us or not will not guide our actions. Anyone who dares to act against the law and harms Georgia economically, politically, or in terms of statehood will, sooner or later, face justice - this is our style. Speculations about whether ‘this might politically harm us’ will not stop us. Every perpetrator of illegal actions will face Georgian justice,” Sharmanashvili stated.
When asked whether this crime could have been committed under the supervision of high-ranking officials, Sharmanashvili responded that the Prosecutor’s Office would inform the public about who facilitated it, how, and in what form the crime was committed.
“There will be no cover-up here. There’s no point in covering it up. Not a single fact will be concealed, no matter what level of individuals are involved. No one will be shielded, and nothing will be hidden from the Georgian voter,” noted Tengiz Sharmanashvili.
For reference, the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office, in collaboration with the State Security Service, identified a case of legalization of illicit income amounting to an unprecedented $624 million USD and €35 million, carried out between 2022 and 2024. One individual has been detained on charges of money laundering. The agency does not disclose the detainee’s identity but clarifies that the person is not a well-known public figure.
