Prosecutor's Office presents biological examination report, according to which Tornike Rizhvadze's DNA was found on the pen seized

The trial of the former head of the Maritime Transport Agency, Aleksi Akhvlediani, relating to the attempted suicide of the former Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Tornike Rizhvadze, and the careless storage of a firearm is underway at the Tbilisi City Court.

The parties will deliver introductory speeches at today's hearing.

In addition, the Prosecutor's Office presented a biological examination report, according to which Tornike Rizhvadze's DNA was found on a pen removed from the bedroom where Rizhvadze was staying. Also, mixed DNA, that is, that of Tornike Rizhvadze and Aleksi Akhvlediani, was found on the firearm.

The defendant Aleksi Akhvlediani is present at the trial. Akhvlediani stated at the trial that it is important to question Tornike Rizhvadze in this case.

For information, the investigation into the attempted suicide of Tornike Rizhvadze, the former Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, is underway under Article 115 of the Criminal Code. The criminal case against Aleksi Akhvlediani has been separated, since it was his firearm that was used to fire the shot.

The prosecutor's office charged Aleksi Akhvlediani under Article 238 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which involves careless storage of a firearm, which led to serious consequences. The aforementioned action provides for imprisonment for a term of up to three years.

Aleksi Akhvlediani has been granted bail of 30,000 GEL as a preventive measure.
