Prosecutor's Office charges Zviad Kuprava with calling for overthrow of state government and resisting a government representative

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged Zviad Kuprava, a member of the National Movement, with calling for the overthrow of the state government and resisting a government representative.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, an investigation conducted by the State Security Service established that on September 30, a member of the Tbilisi Municipality Council posted a video on Facebook in which he publicly called for the overthrow of the state government and spoke about specific violent actions to be carried out on October 4, Election Day.

Also, the defendant violently resisted State Security Service officers during his detention on October 1 based on a judge's ruling.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the detainee was charged under Article 353, Part 1 and Article 317 (calling for the overthrow of state power and resisting a government official) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for up to 6 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

The Prosecutor's Office will apply to the court within the time limit established by law to apply pre-trial detention against the detainee.
