Everyone who called for an overthrow, violence, and toppling must know that they will face a particularly harsh response; this is the demand of society - I urge all state institutions to be strict during such manifestations, stated Mikheil Kavelashvili during a briefing held today.
Kavelashvili assessed the events that unfolded near the Presidential Administration yesterday and described them as directed by foreign intelligence services.
"Even in the previous days, society witnessed vandalistic acts and calls. In Georgia, there are still forces acting on the orders of foreign intelligence services, and our society has been monitoring how they behave here, where we are located. They smashed and burned the surrounding fence, one of the landmarks of our city, where every day we see numerous citizens and tourists enjoying its beauty. Society saw how all of this was destroyed yesterday, and no one should pity them. These forces, organized by foreign intelligence services, called on Georgia's citizens yesterday to overthrow the government, and this will not go unpunished - there will be a strict response in connection with this. Since the restoration of independence, our society has become very well aware and conducts very good analysis; the wise Georgian people will not allow anyone to change the government in Georgia through violent means. This is very clearly evident in the activity shown in the elections, and I want to thank the citizens for this awareness. I believe in our people, our country, that all this will be left in the past, and I urge all state institutions to be strict during such manifestations. When it comes to security, it is particularly noteworthy how our law enforcement agencies acted and the high standard they maintained. This was evident once again yesterday. Everyone who is against all this and who called for an overthrow, violence, and toppling must know that they will face a particularly harsh response. This is the demand of society," Kavelashvili stated.
