Detainee from the October 4 events: There was cynicism at the main police department; if anyone even tried to speak, they were met with insults and threats — they said everything imaginable

“When I was taken to the main police department — if I’m not mistaken, it was Dgebuadze’s office — there was cynicism,” said Tornike Mchedlishvili, who was detained during the October 4 rally, during his court hearing. “If anyone even tried to say something, they told us everything — insults, threats… excuse my language, even things like ‘you deserve it,’” he added.

According to Mchedlishvili, there were also threats of physical harm.

“There was no physical assault,” he clarified.

As a reminder, the Tbilisi City Court is currently hearing the case of the defendants detained during the October 4 rally — Tornike Mchedlishvili, Abo Naveriani, Eva Shashviashvili, and Davit Sturua.

At today’s session, the court is discussing the issue of preventive measures for the detainees.

The defense filed a motion to recuse the judge, Lela Maridashvili, which was denied.

The prosecution is requesting the strictest preventive measure — pre-trial detention — for all four defendants, while the defense is proposing bail instead.

For reference, the investigation into the events near the Atoneli Palace is being conducted under Articles 317, 222, 225, and 187 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

Within this investigation, 23 people have been detained — 18 of them civil activists, while 5 are accused of organizing the rally. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 3 individuals remain in hiding.
