Davit Zhghenti, detained during the October 4 events: I was beaten during my detention

I was beaten during my detention! One was an employee of the State Security Service, and the other, I think, was from the President’s security, stated Davit Zhghenti, detained during the October 4 rally, at the court hearing.

While speaking about the violation of his rights, he noted that physical violence was used against him both during and after his detention.

He also stated that he does not agree with the charges brought against him.

For reference, the Tbilisi City Court is holding hearings for four more individuals detained during the October 4 rally: Alexandre Gogoladze, Davit Zhghenti, Giorgi Rurua, and Kakhaber Mzhavanadze. At today’s hearing, the court will discuss the application of preventive measures for the detainees. The prosecution is requesting the harshest preventive measure - pretrial detention - for all four. For reference, the investigation regarding individuals involved in the events at the Atoneli Palace is being conducted under Articles 317, 222, 225, and 187 of the Criminal Code. Within the scope of this investigation, 23 individuals were detained, including 18 civic activists, with 5 accused of organizing the rally, among other charges. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 3 individuals are in hiding.
