Tbilisi City Court applies pre-trial detention against five more people detained in connection with October 4 events

Tbilisi City Court has sent five more people detained in connection with the October 4 events - Genadi Kupreishvili, Aleksandre Chilachava, Lasha Ivanadze, Levan Jikia and Sulkhan Tughushi - to pre-trial detention. Judge Pikria Sikturashvili announced the decision a short time ago.

Today's trial considered the prosecutor's motion to use pre-trial detention as a preventive measure. In turn, the defendants did not agree with the charges brought against them.

The state prosecution requested the use of the most severe preventive measure of detention against all of them. According to prosecutor Roin Khintibidze, there are threats of the detainees committing new crimes and destroying evidence. The defense, however, did not agree with the prosecutor's motion.

According to the lawyers, the publicly released footage does not show any evidence of violence or incitement to violence by their clients, and there is no evidence of a group crime.

The judge granted the prosecution's motion and ordered pre-trial detention for all five defendants.
