"No Sveta and no one else – Gela Udzilauri went to a specific place with a specific purpose," stated Levan Vefkhvadze, the prosecutor in the case of Gela Udzilauri, who is accused of the ordered and premeditated murder of businessman Levan Jangveladze and the attempted murder of his driver, Gia Chaduneli, during the court hearing.
With this statement, he responded to the defendant's testimony, according to which Gela Udzilauri claimed that on the day of the murder, he was supposed to meet a "woman of Ukrainian origin named Sveta on University Street," but ultimately went to Chavchavadze Avenue to see Levan Jangveladze because he had a "personal grudge" against him.
Levan Vefkhvadze is currently delivering his closing remarks at the Tbilisi City Court.
The prosecutor has a closing speech exceeding 300 pages, in which he discusses how the case has irrefutably confirmed the ordered and premeditated murder of Levan Jangveladze and the attempted premeditated murder of Gia Chaduneli, thereby endangering the lives and health of others.
"We expected to hear what Gela Udzilauri would say. He himself knows it's a fabricated version, and he had no confrontation with Levan Jangveladze in the past – it's questionable whether Jangveladze even knew him," Vefkhvadze stated.
He also evaluated the testimonies of witnesses, including those of Gia Chaduneli and Kakhaber Dzadzamia, who testified in court that Levan Jangveladze met with the former Prosecutor General, Otar Partskhaladze, twice during his stay in Georgia.
"The brothers Davit and Giorgi Mikadze had a conflict with Levan Jangveladze. They planned Jangveladze's murder on the order of other persons.
They connected with Gela Udzilauri, a person trusted by Giorgi Jokhadze, and ordered him to carry out Levan Jangveladze's murder...
No Sveta and no one else – he went there with a specific purpose, to a specific place. No accidental shot in the hand – he shot in a specific direction. If anyone believes that Udzilauri was really texting someone named Sveta at the scene while stalking Levan Jangveladze, I don't know – it's absurd...
That Levan Jangveladze was talking to Udzilauri on Skype – isn't that absurd? Whatever circumstances he described, you can't verify them, we can't question the deceased. Regarding the weapon, what he said was meant to absolve Giorgi Jokhadze of responsibility...
On that day, Gela Udzilauri left home at 18:23, according to him, to meet Sveta, and was carrying clothes in his hand. We heard a lot of absurdities, he got tangled in his own versions... We're looking for this Sveta, we don't know her last name or address... When he couldn't find Sveta, he took bus No. 351 to Chavchavadze Avenue, got off there, walked to the underpass, then took a taxi, then walked again – and against all this, Gela Udzilauri says he couldn't find Sveta, so he had to see Jangveladze – why would he go there otherwise?
Gela Udzilauri was waiting for a signal that Levan Jangveladze had arrived there – this is confirmed by his attitude toward the phone. Levan Jangveladze asked Udzilauri for the address, and the accused hung up in response. Interestingly, as soon as Jangveladze passes him, Udzilauri takes off his glasses, looks at his phone, and watches Levan Jangveladze. He's waiting for information – if he has Jangveladze's photo on his phone and is comparing, it's in Udzilauri's heart, and he should say it. But what he said, we know – it's absurd.
A special forces operative who worked for 14 years explains: I shot low and didn't want to hit Levan Jangveladze. Gela Udzilauri tried to downplay his case toward leniency, but it didn't work. He fired 7 bullets, 2 in the back, 2 in the chest. He's a special forces guy – he aimed for the hand!" Vefkhvadze stated.
According to him, Udzilauri discarded the mobile phone he had.
"He discarded a mobile phone registered in Poland," Vefkhvadze stated.
The prosecutor demanded the harshest response from the court to the committed act.
"If a person can commit an ordered murder for money, the court's response must be the harshest," Vefkhvadze stated.
For reference, Gela Udzilauri has been detained on charges of ordered and premeditated murder of Levan Jangveladze.
The incident occurred on March 14, 2025, at 23:30 in Tbilisi on Ilia Chavchavadze Avenue. According to the prosecutor's office, Udzilauri fired multiple shots from a firearm at Levan Jangveladze and his driver, Gia Chaduneli, in a crowded area. As a result of multiple injuries, Jangveladze died at the scene, while Chaduneli was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
Gela Udzilauri is charged under subparagraphs "b" and "l" of Article 19.109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (attempted premeditated murder committed against two persons using means that endanger the lives and health of others) and parts three and four of Article 236 (illegal acquisition, storage, and carrying of a firearm), which provides for imprisonment from 16 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
