A new charge has been added to the accusations against Eldar Kurtanidze, a former deputy of "Georgian Dream." According to his lawyer, Ivane Meparishvili, in a statement to "Interpressnews," the investigation against Kurtanidze is being conducted under four articles. Recently, a new charge was added to the case, related to the violation of property rights.
Meparishvili also noted that a hearing in the Batumi City Court regarding the case of Eldar Kurtanidze, the former "Georgian Dream" deputy, is scheduled to begin shortly.
Additionally, the defense plans to file a motion to impose bail as a preventive measure for Kurtanidze.
"The prosecution is charging him under four articles: violence, property damage, violation of a restraining order, and violation of property ownership rights. The 160th article is the new one, added to the case a few days ago. The defendant’s position is as follows: everything he did was to ensure his children were in a safe, nurturing environment and provided for. There are legal grounds for applying a less severe preventive measure, and we are requesting bail. A non-custodial measure will not obstruct the administration of justice," the lawyer stated.
For context, Luka Kurtanidze has been charged with domestic violence, intentional damage to a family member’s property, and failure to comply with the requirements and obligations of a protective order. These offenses carry a penalty of up to five years of imprisonment.
