Ministry of Internal Affairs: 47 individuals arrested for drug-related crimes in Tbilisi and regions over the past 24 hours

As a result of police operations conducted over the past 24 hours in Tbilisi and other regions, law enforcement officers have arrested 47 individuals involved in drug-related crimes.

This was announced by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Alexandre Darakhvelidze during a briefing at the Ministry.

According to Darakhvelidze, the majority of those arrested are charged with drug trafficking, while others face charges for the illegal acquisition and possession of particularly large quantities of narcotic substances, attempted illegal trafficking, and facilitating such activities.

“These crimes carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment. The police operations were conducted by employees of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs in collaboration with the General Prosecutor’s Office, based on a court order. The arrested individuals include both Georgian and foreign nationals.

As a result of intensive investigative actions by law enforcement, supported by evidence including covert audio-video recordings obtained under court orders, it has been established that the detained drug traffickers were systematically selling narcotic substances to citizens through various methods and channels.

During searches of the detainees’ vehicles, personal belongings, and residences, as well as locations they indicated, the police seized particularly large quantities of narcotic substances as evidence, including heroin, methadone, alpha-PVP, Suboxone, Subutex, methamphetamine, hashish, opium, marijuana, and cannabis plants.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260, 260-tertia, and 260-quarta of the Georgian Criminal Code.

I would like to express special gratitude to all law enforcement officers who, often at the risk of their own lives, diligently perform their duties in the fight against drug-related crimes on a daily basis.

Our policy in combating drug-related crimes is clear and unwavering—every individual who endangers the lives and health of our citizens, especially young people, will face the full force of the law!” Darakhvelidze stated.
