Lawyer’s statement: Charges officially filed against Irakli Shaishmelashvili

Charges have been officially filed in absentia against Irakli Shaishmelashvili, the former head of the Operational Planning Department of the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This was announced to “InterpressNews” by his lawyer, Natia Mezvrishvili.

According to the lawyer, the case materials were provided to her a short time ago, but they are extensive, consisting of several volumes, and have not yet been fully reviewed.

It is expected that the Tbilisi City Court will consider imposing a preventive measure on Irakli Shaishmelashvili tomorrow.

For context, according to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Gela Geladze, Irakli Shaishmelashvili is charged with “calling for the violent change of Georgia’s constitutional order and the overthrow of state authority.”
