Archimandrite Dorote Kurashvili, who had been summoned to the Patriarchate for a diocesan commission session, was not permitted to enter the session accompanied by media representatives.
The archimandrite arrived at the Patriarchate with three other clergy members.
According to him, he was summoned to the session over televised appearances and, since those statements were made publicly to the media, he demanded to attend the session together with journalists.
"They did not let me in with the journalists," Dorote Kurashvili stated.
Prior to that, a Patriarchate representative approached him and informed him that he would attend the session without the media.
"You will enter together with the clergy," the Patriarchate representative told Archimandrite Dorote.
In response, the archimandrite said he would enter only with the media.
Furthermore, according to him, any decision the commission makes regarding him today will be illegal, as he also has the right to present certain demands. Archimandrite Dorote stated that the commission must publicly discuss what claims they have against him.
"They sent me the questions; I know what they are. They concern televised appearances. Therefore, when they themselves claim that admitting journalists is impossible and unacceptable, this is a wrong interpretation—because admitting journalists is unacceptable only when the commission convenes over someone's moral misconduct. But when my summons is due to televised appearances, it is impossible not to admit journalists. This is not unprecedented because they are directly demanding answers from me about televised appearances, and in those appearances, I did not appear alone—I appeared with journalists, meaning they are also accused," Archimandrite Dorote stated.
According to him, he is fighting for the country's European path.
"I declared that I will enter only with journalists—that's it; I will make no other decision. The church is not theirs alone. The church is ours. Therefore, I also have rights to demand and to demand answers regarding the decisions and laws they adopt, which they say in Russia's favor. Directly, one-on-one, Metropolitan Shio's team together with Father Andria makes decisions that suit the government, and they oppose the European course. I support Georgia not losing the opportunity for integration with Europe—not just support, but I fight for it. They fight the opposite way. Therefore, I do not care what punishment they impose on me; what matters to me is only that Georgia and the Georgian Church survive, that Russia does not swallow us and destroy us as it has done nine times before, ruining us," Archimandrite Dorote Kurashvili stated after he was not allowed into the session with the media.
