Zurab Abashidze re-elected as Chairman of Tbilisi City Council

Zurab Abashidze was once again elected as Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council. His candidacy was supported by the majority of the 8th convocation City Council at today's session.

Beka Davituliani was elected as First Deputy Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council, and Tinatin Niblosvili as Second Deputy. As for the Third Deputy Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council, this position will be held by Levan Japaridze.

The first session of the 8th convocation Tbilisi City Council is currently underway. The session was opened by Giorgi Kalandarishvili, Chairman of the Central Election Commission.

For reference, Zurab Abashidze was Deputy Chairman of the previous, 7th convocation Tbilisi Municipal Council. However, after Giorgi Tkemaladze took the position of Tbilisi Vice-Mayor, he was elected Chairman of the City Council.

From 2017–2021, he served as Georgia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Kazakhstan, and from 2012–2016, he was a Member of the Parliament of Georgia and Deputy Chairman of the Parliament.
