We must not forget that about a year ago, in the Parliament's plenary hall, 89 "Georgian Dream" deputies were applauding Irakli Karseladze - political responsibility extends not just to the deputy minister and the minister, but to "Georgian Dream" as a regime, - "For Georgia" deputy Giorgi Sharashidze stated this to journalists, responding to the search conducted at the home of the former Minister of Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze, and the detention of the deputy minister from the same agency.
According to him, this signifies the collapse and failure of parliamentary oversight.
Sharashidze also noted that the new Minister of Infrastructure "inherited a corrupt ministry."
"Two days ago, right here in Parliament, under the interpellation procedure, the Minister of Infrastructure essentially admitted it. He didn't even have the courage to say directly that he inherited a corrupt ministry. He himself cited the fact that out of 214 ongoing projects at the Municipal Development Fund, 161 are problematic, and the total value of these projects exceeds 1 billion lari. When the minister himself confirms this, I think no other questions remain. We must not forget that about a year ago, in this very hall, these 89 deputies were applauding Irakli Karseladze. They were applauding, welcoming, and supporting him, which of course means that political responsibility extends not just to the deputy minister and the minister, but certainly to 'Georgian Dream.' This means the collapse of parliamentary oversight, the failure of parliamentary control and supervision, a total systemic collapse. Of course, this responsibility fully extends to 'Dream' as a regime, and the responsibility of the parliamentary majority is particularly significant. I want to remind you that the current prime minister, who supposedly fights corruption, was the leader of the parliamentary team, whose direct duty was to provide proper oversight of the government. It was exactly during that period, if I'm not mistaken, that Mr. Papuashvili was also the Speaker of Parliament," Sharashidze stated.
The deputy also said that "if Kobakhidze wants to convince the people that he is fighting corruption, he should start with Kaladze and the Tbilisi City Hall, because the most questions are related to them."
"How can Kobakhidze convince anyone that he is fighting corruption when Kakha Kaladze is the symbol of corruption? Do you think corruption existed in the Ministry of Infrastructure but not in the Tbilisi City Hall?! No one has entered the capital's city hall and properly investigated because this is all internal clan confrontation. Do you think we are dealing with a real fight against corruption?! One 'clan' is being replaced by another. The Garibashvili-Liluashvili 'clan' is being replaced by the Kobakhidze-Kaladze 'clan,'" Sharashidze stated.
For reference, on the fact of abuse of official powers by a state political official, the Ministry of Finance and the State Security Service detained the former Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Koba Gabunia. As part of the investigation, the home of the former Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze, was also searched. According to the investigation, the case concerns the rehabilitation of 30 kindergartens.
