Kakha Kaladze: Rehabilitation of "Varketili" metro station will be completed by the end of the year - We couldn't find a company to perform the work - One company failed to fulfill obligations - We kicked them out - A second company failed - We kicked them out - We face enormous problems

The rehabilitation of "Varketili" metro station will be completed by the end of the year - We couldn't find a company to perform the work. There was one company that failed to fulfill its obligations - we kicked them out; there was a second company that failed - we kicked them out. We face enormous problems, - Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated this in response to a question at the City Council session.

According to Kaladze, many companies refrained from participating and carrying out the relevant work.

"We have never hidden anything; we have always spoken directly about everything, including the challenges and difficulties related to the rehabilitation of 'Varketili' metro station. We couldn't find a company to perform the work. There was one company that failed to fulfill its obligations - we kicked them out; there was a second company - failed - we kicked them out. We face enormous problems because we don't have experts in this field, we don't have companies with the relevant experience capable of carrying out this type of work.

We would start doing something, and then it would turn out there were problems in the tunnel arch. We hired foreign experts, brought them in, the project was redesigned and studied from scratch. For us, the main thing is that everything we do is done safely, especially since we remember what happened at Varketili metro. Many companies are hesitant - they are afraid, they avoid entering and carrying out the work. However, today all the necessary studies have been conducted, and the metro station was temporarily closed for the required work; it couldn't serve passengers and was reopened at the end of August. By the New Year, the work in this direction will be fully completed," Kakha Kaladze stated.
