Tata Khvedeliani: Our political team has worked extremely hard to ensure that any restrictions do not touch visa-liberalisation

“It is correctly and adequately understood that under the conditions of ‘Georgian Dream’ the country is sliding into self-isolation. Nevertheless, our political team has worked very hard to ensure that restrictions do not affect visa-liberalisation,” Tata Khvedeliani, MP from the “Gakharia – For Georgia” party, told journalists while discussing expectations for the EU Enlargement Report on Georgia.

According to her, the calls coming from the international community are extremely sharp.

“It is correctly and adequately understood that under ‘Georgian Dream’ the country is sliding into self-isolation. Nevertheless, our political team has worked very hard to ensure that restrictions do not affect visa-liberalisation. We must all work together so that nothing touches the achievement that our people have earned, because if it does, our people will be harmed,” Khvedeliani said.

She added that any politician who speaks about suspending visa-liberalisation is engaging in sabotage.

“The most important thing is that visa-liberalisation is not touched by restrictions, because this will have a direct impact on our country and our population. Our people will be harmed by it. Therefore, if any politician says, ‘Yes, visa-liberalisation must be suspended,’ that is sabotage that the Georgian nation does not deserve. Of course, it is very important that these restrictions do not extend to visa-liberalisation and do not affect our people,” Khvedeliani declared.

For reference: The EU Enlargement Report concerning Georgia will be published on 4 November.

EU Commissioner for Enlargement Márta Kos will present the 2025 Enlargement Package to members of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee. According to the Parliament, debates will be held focusing on the progress made by candidate and potential candidate countries on their path to EU membership. After the Commission evaluates the EU-related reforms in these countries, the Committee’s rapporteurs will draft resolutions containing the Parliament’s conclusions and recommendations for each country.
