One of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Gedevan Popkhadze, along with several activists, continues his hunger strike in front of the parliament.
This is the 8th day that Popkhadze has resorted to this form of protest.
As Gedevan Popkhadze told InterpressNews, the hunger strike has a political goal: to release political prisoners in the country and to hold new parliamentary elections.
“It is the 8th day of the hunger strike, 2 people have already joined us. At the moment, 8 people are on hunger strike, 7 here, in front of the parliament, and one in the penitentiary.
The state of health is satisfactory at the moment, we have no special problems, we feel good. We believe that this action should be expanded and strengthened until the political environment in the country changes. A parliament that is illegitimate and so many political prisoners in the country precludes the legal, fair and healthy development of the country.
This action has a political goal, so that this political agenda, that there should be no political prisoners in the country and that new parliamentary elections should be held, becomes the main political task and these goals are actualized. A hunger strike alone will not achieve this result, because on the other side there is a corrupt, illegitimate club of robbers, money lovers, who are destroying this country. They are robbing. They will not give up on this on their own will, a protest movement must emerge that will fight, destroy and undermine them, which will then crush the corrupt and illegitimate regime," said Gedevan Popkhadze.
For information, Gedevan Popkhadze resorted to an extreme form of protest on October 28 and began a hunger strike. Darejan Tskhvitaria and several other activists went on a hunger strike together with the opposition leader. Their demand is "release political prisoners and appointment of new parliamentary elections."
