Marta Kos: Dear government of Georgia, you are not bringing your people to the EU - listen to your people and stop putting the opposition leaders and journalists into jail, then we can talk

Dear government of Georgia, you are not bringing your people to the EU. You are bringing your people away from the EU. If you are serious about the EU, then listen to your people and stop putting the opposition leaders and journalists, people who think differently than you, into jail, then we can talk, - European Commissioner Marta Kos said at the briefing in response to a question from Euroscope editor Tamar Nutsubidze about whether we should expect additional measures against Georgia, including against the ruling party.

She also noted that in November they will have a new mechanism for suspending visas, which will make it possible to take further steps towards Georgia.

"The concrete measures are, of course, in the hands of the member states, but in November, we will hopefully get the new visa suspension mechanism, which will enable us to do some further, further steps. And I have a very important message for the citizens of Georgia, especially because you know their government is telling the citizens that they are bringing them in the EU, dear government of Georgia, you are not bringing your people to the EU. You are bringing your people away from the EU. If you are serious about the EU, then listen to your people and stop putting the opposition leaders and journalists, people who think differently than you, into jail, then we can talk," said Marta Kos.
