Georgia is not on track to become a member of the European Union in 2030 or later, EU Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herczynski said when asked how realistic it is for Georgia to become a member of the European Union in 2030.
“The enlargement report is absolutely clear. Georgia is not on track to become a member of the European Union in 2030 or later. With democratic backsliding, anti-European disinformation being repeated by the highest authorities, and the erosion of fundamental freedoms on which the European Union is built, Georgia will not become a member of the European Union,” Herczynski said.
He said the EU is ready to work with the authorities to rectify the situation.“For our part, we are ready to cooperate with the government to change this deplorable situation. This report was prepared by 33 institutions and 9 agencies. We are ready to contribute to making Georgia a success story. For this, the Georgian government needs goodwill to adhere to the basic rules and principles on which the European Union stands,” the Ambassador noted.
