Levan Machavariani on the EU Enlargement Report: The same old lies keep circulating - Our road to the EU runs through neither Ursula von der Leyen, nor Kallas, nor Kos. No one will stop us from being the best-prepared country for membership by 2030

“No one can stop us from being, by 2030, the country best prepared to join the European Union. We expect the EU’s attitude toward Georgia to change,” declared Georgian Dream MP Levan Machavariani while commenting on the EU Enlargement Report.

He added that the path to the EU passes through neither Ursula von der Leyen, nor Kaja Kallas, nor Marta Kos.

“We saw this coming. The same lies are being recycled, the same baseless accusations that started the very day Russia’s war in Ukraine began, simply because Georgia refused to open a second front.

Let me be crystal-clear to the public: the road to the EU does not run through von der Leyen, Kallas or Kos. It runs through the values we aspire to. In the hands of these eurocrats (hand-picked by the deep state) the EU has drifted far from those values.

We remain hopeful, and we are convinced that by 2030 (when enlargement is officially scheduled) the situation will have changed radically. We already see an awakening in several member states. For the rest, Georgia and the Georgian people are the example of how to defend national sovereignty.

Therefore, no one will stop us from being the best-prepared country for membership in 2030,” Machavariani said.

The majority MP stressed that Georgian Dream attacks no one; it is purely on the defensive.

“There is not a single example in 13 years of Georgian Dream doing Russia’s bidding or increasing Russian influence in Georgia. Not one. Physically, not one,” he said.

“As long as we remain under attack, we have no choice but to respond. We are a proud nation. Yet we always answer with facts and arguments, never with perceptions.

We expect this attitude toward Georgia to change. Our foreign policy is pro-Western (enshrined in the Constitution) and we have never taken a single step we are accused of. No one can name one thing Georgian Dream has done in 13 years to serve Russia or boost its influence here. There is literally zero evidence,” Machavariani concluded.
