Davit Matikashvili: Yesterday, the public heard a report from the European Commission filled with blatant lies and anti-Georgian rhetoric

The report was entirely falsified — it gives the impression that everything is being done to prevent Georgia from advancing its European prospects, so inconsistent and detached from reality are the so-called facts and arguments included, Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of Parliament’s Procedural and Rules Committee, said while commenting on the European Commission’s enlargement report.

According to Matikashvili, the report contains numerous falsehoods.

He added that the European Commission is using this falsified report as a means to exert pressure on Georgian society.

“Yesterday, the public heard a report from the European Commission completely filled with blatant lies and anti-Georgian rhetoric. It is difficult to give any other assessment than that it reflects a clearly unfriendly attitude toward our country and the Georgian people, which the European Commission and the EU could not conceal. The report gives the impression that everything is being done to block Georgia’s European perspective, as it is filled with so-called facts and arguments that are inconsistent and far from reality.

“The report even falsely claims that Georgia did not support resolutions in favor of Ukraine and acted against broader European initiatives. From start to finish, the report was falsified. This is a fake report, and the aim of such a report is to exert pressure on our society.

“At the same time, what is most surprising and shameful for those who wrote the report is that, within the EU itself, alongside the Commission’s report, there is abundant information showing Georgia’s significant progress. In many cases, our country ranks higher than not only candidate countries but even some EU member states. Yet, the report mentions this progress only superficially, if at all, and does not provide a sufficient basis to discuss it in detail,” Matikashvili said.
